Obituary

William Hunter (Bill) Harris passed peacefully at his home on August 28th with his devoted wife of 60 years, Maureen, by his side.
Born on January 16, 1929, to Raymond Allen Harris, Sr. and Bessie Mae Satterwhite Harris, Bill is predeceased by his parents, son Paul Hunter, daughter Nancy Harris Drouin; siblings Raymond Allen Harris, Jr. and Sally Harris Fox; brother-in-law William E. Davis, nephew Herbert W. Vaden.
In addition to his wife, Maureen Jones Harris, Bill is survived by his sister Martha H. Davis of Reidsville, NC, and children Margaret A.H. Taylor (Lynn) of Hanover County and W. Hunter Harris, Jr. (Michelle) of Middlebrook. Grandchildren: Philip Lynn Taylor IV (Rebekah) of Mechanicsville and Alyson Jo-Ann Taylor Mancini (Michael) of Aylett. Great Grandchildren: Chloe Ann and Abigail Lynn Taylor, Rocco Anthony and Baby Mancini. Also surviving are sister-in-law Sallie Gardner Harris, in-laws Maurice and Dorothy Jones, a host of loving nieces and nephews, and devoted friend George L. Landis, IV. Bill and Maureen were wed in Illinois during his service in the Air Force, moved to North Carolina for a couple of years then settled in Brunswick County Virginia where they spent the next 50 years and raised their family.
Bill attended Fork Union Military Academy and University of North Carolina. He was self-employed as a Forestry Consultant and was a member of Lawrenceville United Methodist Church. Moving in 2006 to the Shenandoah Valley, Bill and Maureen enjoyed hosting their visiting relatives and friends in their home in Fairfield Estates, Raphine, Va. To ensure the love of his life would be well cared for, Bill encouraged they move in early July to Baldwin Park, a lovely retirement community in Staunton, where he spent his remaining days.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, August 31, 2014 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton, VA.
A Celebration of life will be conducted 1:00 p.m. September 2, 2014 in the Lawrenceville United Methodist Church, Lawrenceville, VA.
Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Lawrenceville, VA.
There will be a reception and visitation following the service at the Lawrenceville United Methodist Church.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
