Obituary

Thomas Lyle Alphin, 87, of 260 Big River Road in Goshen, was received into his eternal home by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ surrounded by his family at his home, Saturday April 9, 2022.

"Lyle" was born on September 23, 1934 in Bath County, Virginia a son of the late Tom and Katherine (Lyle) Alphin.

Lyle was owner and operator of Alphin's Logging. He began logging at a young age when wood was cut with a cross cut saw and loaded by hand. He never shied away from a hard day's work and thoroughly enjoyed his work.

He enjoyed driving a race car in his younger days, as well as a good bear chase and coon hunting.

Lyle was a member of Goshen Presbyterian Church and attended Millboro Christian Church.

As he became older he enjoyed reading, especially his Bible, and talking and sharing his life experiences with everyone. He enjoyed a good baseball and football game.

In addition to his parents Lyle was preceded in death by a son, Vernon Alphin; a daughter, Gale Hildebrand; sons-in-law, Jerry Campbell and Brian Hildebrand.

Mr. Alphin is the last surviving of his immediate family.

Lyle is survived by his wife of 67 years, Julia Ann (Kennedy) Alphin; his children, Mary Campbell of Swoope, George Alphin and wife Annie, Glen Alphin and wife Teresa, and Teresa Via and husband Lloyd all of Goshen; six grandchildren, Thomas "Tinker" and wife Trish, George Henry, Ashley, Lindsey, Lettie and Sadie; five great grandchildren, Baylei, Dylan, Evan, Jackson, and Callie; and special cousin, Timmy Alphin of Goshen.

A celebration of life will be conducted 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 14, 2022 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Lloyd Via.

The family will receive friends following the service and other times at the residence.

The family would like to extend a special "Thank You" to the Rockbridge Area Hospice of Lexington, and nurse Marlene Deacon.
