Sylvia Carolyn (McPherson) Marcum, 67, of 50 Odell Drive, Fishersville, passed away Monday, August 10, 2009 in Augusta Health in Fishersville.
Mrs. Marcum was born December 10, 1941 in Waynesboro, a daughter of the late Cecil Harold McPherson, Sr. and Marion Gray (Simmock) McPherson.
Sylvia was retired from the Genesco-L-Grief Company and most recently was a homemaker. She attended Arbor Hill Church of the Brethren, she enjoyed gardening, cooking, puzzles and helping other people.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Marcum was preceded in death by a daughter, Rita Stickler in 2008 and her maternal grandparents who raised her, Andy and Orpha Mable Simmock.
Survivors include a son, Robert Lee Stickler of Waynesboro; two daughters, Lori Lee Gravely of Crimora and Rebecca Lynn Riggleman of Staunton; a brother and sister-in-law, Cecil Harold McPherson, Jr. and his wife Wanda of Churchville; seven sisters and brothers-in-law, Nancy Jo McPherson of Annapolis, MD, Linda Ann Killian and her husband Wayne of Staunton, Karen Gray McPherson of Marlinton, WVA, Phyllis Marie Seal of Staunton, Joan Irene Armstrong and Mark VanName of Greenville, Rita Kay Strother and her husband Roy of Harrisonburg, Rhoda Sue Clements and her husband Bill of Claudville; four grandchildren; Kerri Wood, Julie Stokes, Robert Monast, Jr. and Xzavier Hoover; four great-grandchildren; Alexzandrea Monast, Hailey Stokes and Gage and Wyatt Wood and her very special pet cats Toby and Lucky.
The family wishes to express a sincere Thank You to Sylvias niece and nephew, Kelly and Brian Russell for all the loving care given this past year during her illness.
A graveside service will be conducted 2:00 p.m., Thursday, August 13, 2009 in the Oaklawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens by Pastor Harold W. Pete Campbell.
The family will receive friends this evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Coffman Funeral Home and at other times the home of her sister and brother-in-law, Linda A. and Wayne Killian, 1709 Englewood Drive, Staunton.
