Samuel Richard "Sam" Harris, Sr., 90, husband of Mary Katherine (Shipe) Harris of 2671 Lee Highway, Mt. Sidney, passed away Thursday, July 29, 2021 at Summit Square in Waynesboro.

Mr. Harris was born in Augusta County, Virginia on October 10, 1930, a son of the late Paul Thomas Harris, Sr. and Mattie Helen (Tisdale) Harris.

Sam was a member of Augusta Stone Presbyterian Church and a veteran of the United States Army, where he served in the 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Rakkasans during the Korean War. He was employed by Huffman Transfer/Huffman Lawn and Garden from 1955 to 2020 as a truck driver and small engine repair. He was a member of the Verona VFW Post 10826, and he loved to garden, fish, and work in his yard.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Harris was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul T. Harris Jr., Joseph "Bud" Harris, and Elwood Harris; a sister, Frances Brown; and a granddaughter, Amber Dove.

Surviving in addition to his wife of sixty-seven years, are two sons, Samuel R. "Sam" Harris, Jr. and his wife Margaret of Cypress, Texas and J. David Harris of Toronto, Ohio; daughter, Mary (Harris) Dove and her companion Earl Mawyer of Verona; two brothers, Melvin Harris of Stephens City and Larry Harris of Waynesboro; two sisters, Ida Sue Wagner of Swoope and Carol Jean Sparks of Stuarts Draft; eleven grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, August 1, 2021 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 2, 2021 at the Augusta Stone Presbyterian Church in Ft. Defiance by Reverend Mark Wilson.

Burial is private in the church cemetery.
