Opal (Sheppard) Brooks, 82, widow of Charles Henley Bakka Brooks formerly of Kiddsville Road, Waynesboro, passed away Saturday, (August 1, 2009) in the Stuarts Draft Christian Home.
Mrs. Brooks was born in Mingo County, West Virginia a daughter of the late William Jennings and Polly (Maynard) Sheppard.
Opal was a retired first grade school teacher, teaching in the Fayette County, West Virginia Public Schools for twenty-one years. She was a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts and was a very kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
In addition to her husband, who preceded her in death on June 9, 2001, and her parents, Mrs. Brooks was preceded in death by an infant son, Charles William Brooks and two brothers, Denver and Charles Sheppard.
Mrs. Brooks is survived by a very loving and devoted daughter, Brenda G. (Brooks) Smith of Verona; a brother, Mr. Radnor W. Sheppard of Sunbury, Ohio; a sister, Mrs. Linda (Sheppard) Foughty of Columbus, Ohio; two very close and special grandchildren, Timothy C. Tim Smith of Staunton and L. Suzanne Losh and her husband Kenny of Waynesboro and five great-grandchildren, Samantha Faris, Khayman Smith, Kamden Losh, Halah Smith and Lacy Losh.
In keeping with Mrs. Brooks request, her memorial service will be private.
