Gary W. Lightner

Gary Wayne Lightner, 57, husband of Freda Gay (Fitzgerald) Lightner of 93 Orchard Road passed away Friday, November 5, 2010 at Augusta Health.
Mr. Lightner was born January 10, 1953 in Augusta County, a son of the late Vernon Cleek and Mary Ellen (Lucas) Lightner.
Gary was employed as a truck driver for Staunton Public Works. He was a member of the Mint Spring United Methodist Church and was a veteran of the United States Marines. Gary enjoyed hunting, fishing and a good game of Texas Holdem. He was a completely devoted husband, father, grandfather and had a host of friends which he enjoyed.
Surviving in addition to wife of thirty-nine years is a son and daughter-in-law, David W. Lightner and his wife Tammy of Greenville; a daughter and son-in-law, Melissa D. Shifflett and her husband Kevin of Staunton; four grandsons, Justin and Joshua Shifflett and Daniel and Landon Lightner; two brothers, Gene Cleek Lightner of Gaithersburg, MD and James Russell Lightner of Washington, DC; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Nancy Campbell Tisdale of Verona, Mary Sharon Lowe and her husband Doyle and Martha Lynn Hunter all of Staunton; a special mother-in-law, Dolly M. Fitzgerald of Staunton; a number of nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles and cousins also survive. Gary is also survived by his pet dog and special companion Precious.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted 6:00 p.m., Monday, November 8, 2010 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Terry Clark.
The family will receive friends following the service and other times at his residence.
