Dr. Mary Agnes Tattersall O\u0027Brien, of Staunton Virginia passed away at the age of 79, on July 11, 2017. Dr. O\u0027Brien was a caretaker and friend to many people in the City of Staunton and the State of Virginia.

Dr. O\u0027Brien was born in District of Columbia, on the third day of October, 1937. She was the Daughter of the late Eric William and Mary Catherine Dorsch Tattersall.

She is survived by Jesse Ward O\u0027Brien and his wife Emily, as well as (sister) Patricia Mercer Tattersall, aka Shane, (brother) Peter Dorsch Tattersall.

Dr. O\u0027Brien\u0027s sister Kay Steffee and her former husband Dr. John Patrick O\u0027Brien, MD have already passed away.

Dr. O\u0027Brien started her education in the Parrish school of St. Francis in Staunton, Virginia, then on to Stuart Hall School for college preparatory. She started her higher education at Bridgewater College and finished at Georgetown Visitation. Accepted to the Medical College of Virginia, she was one of only two women in the class of 1965. After residency she accepted a job heading up the first emergency room in Richmond, VA at St. Mary\u0027s Hospital. Once her son was born she switched to private practice in Charles City County, Va. There she stayed until 1986 when she moved home to practice at Fort Defiance Medical Center. In 2003 she moved her family practice to Staunton and was dedicated to serving her patients until her death. Many of her patients spanned decades and multi-generations. Mary Tattersall, or Toni Tattersall as she was known to her oldest friends was an avid equestrian and fox hunter. When Mary was not practicing medicine, she was doing something that involved a horse. This was her church and true love.

Memorial service for Dr. Mary T. OBrien will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, Staunton, Virginia.
