Brownie Lenora (Loan) Sams, 80, widow of James Howard Sams, Sr. of 96 Eagle Rock Lane passed away Monday, January 13, 2014 at Augusta Health in Fishersville.
Mrs. Sams was born February 19, 1933 in Millboro, a daughter of the late Crawford A. and Della (Phillips) Loan.
Brownie attended First Church of the Nazarene and was a retired CNA from Western State Hospital with thirty-two years of service. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Sams was preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda (Sams) Kelley; a brother, Charles Buz Loan; and four sisters, Mary Huffman, Ann Lefler, Maude Pugh and Barbara Wright.
Surviving are three sons, James H. Buddy Sams, Jr. and Gregory A. Sams both of Staunton and Larry Sams and wife Gina of Harrisonburg; a daughter, Janice (Sams) Shannon and husband Ken of Chesterfield; four sisters, Mamie von Wedel of TN, Nadine Sweet and Goldie Loving both of Staunton and Wilda Griffith of Covington; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and her pet dogs, Tiny and Nash.
The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service on Thursday at Coffman Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 16, 2014 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor W. David Bailey.
Burial will be Oaklawn Memory Garden.
Active pallbearers will be Roger Young, Nathan Young,
Mark Altizer, Mike Sams, Jason Sams, Richard DePriest, and Bill Huffman.
It is suggested that memorial contributions be made to
the American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Court, Richmond, VA 23060 or the American Kidney Association, 11921 Rockville Pike, Suite 300, Rockville, MD 20852.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.
