Betty Jean (Hayes) Berry, 74, widow of Lawrence Elwood Berry of 23 Plaza Apartments passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at Kings Daughters Community Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Berry was born June 12, 1938 in Lexington, a daughter of the late James Henry Hayes, Sr. and Mary Belle (Toman) Hayes.
Mrs. Berry retired from the Jackson County School system in Georgia where she had worked as a custodian, she was of Baptist faith, a member of the Women of the Moose Chapter #1439 and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Eagles Fraternal Order of Aerie # 680. She enjoyed country music, dancing and motorcycle noise. Betty loved her family and her extended family of friends and their wonderful fun times together.
In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded by a brother, James Henry Jimmy Hayes, Jr.
Survivors include three sons, Clyde L. Berry of Harrisonburg, Jason M. Berry of Talmo, GA and Wesley S. Berry of Greenville; a daughter, Tina Dawn Quarles of Gainesville, GA; a sister, Nancy H. Whitesell and her husband Tommy of Staunton; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a number of nieces, nephews and cousins; and special friends, Mamie Powell, Kitty Lindsay, Faye Hayes and Cheryl Spradlin.
A Graveside service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Oaklawn Memory Gardens by Pastor Steven L. Lawhorne.
The family will receive friends 6-8:00 p.m. Friday, August 17, 2012 in Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
