Avis Lorena (Powers) Anthony, 84, widow of Ernest Clarence Ernie Anthony formerly of Maple Street passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at Brookdale Assisted Living of Staunton.
Mrs. Anthony was born on July 10, 1932 in Pax, West Virginia, a daughter of the late George Bethel and Charlotte (Wikel) Powers.
Avis was an active member of Memorial Baptist Church and retired in 1974 from Knopp Enterprises where she was employed as a sales clerk.
Avis read her Bible daily, she enjoyed visiting shut-ins, transporting the sick to doctors appointments, and she enjoyed baking, cake decorating, gardening, and watching westerns. Avis love and talent for cake decorating will be remembered for the countless wedding cakes, anniversary cakes, bridal cakes, baby shower cakes and birthday cakes she made.
Surviving are three sons, David H. Anthony and his wife Jo, Daniel L. Anthony and his wife Karen, and Mark Anthony and his wife Suzy all of Staunton; a daughter, Patti S. Anthony of Staunton; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Dale Powers and his wife Maggie of Swoope; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
A Memorial service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at Memorial Baptist Church by Pastor Mark W. Jones. The family will receive friends following the service in the Great Hall.
Burial will be private in Thornrose Cemetery.
