Willie Warren Harris, 99, beloved husband of Thelma Baker went to join his heavenly Father on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 in Avante of Waynesboro.
Willie was born in Victoria, Virginia on January 22, 1915, a son of the late Eddie and Clara Harris. He was the eldest of six brothers and two sisters.
Mr. Harris loved the Lord and was an active member of the Lighthouse Church. He served in the United States Navy from 1936-1957 and served during World War II. He retired after twenty years as a Chief Petty Officer and later served in the Merchant Marines for ten years. He lived in Huntington, West Virginia from 1947-2011, there he was the owner/operator of a Barber Shop for fifty years and loved being his own boss. Willie was a member of the Elks Club where he attended functions for sixty years and was known as a mean poker player.
Surviving in addition to his wife is his Vietnam Marine buddy and special friend, Elmer (Beetle) Bailey; several nieces and nephews also survive. Thelma loved Willie deeply and she made him happy. They married on February 5, 2011 at the age of ninety-six. Willie will be deeply missed by all, for he gave so much love and friendship to all those around him.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, August 4, 2014 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Harold Wade.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m.
Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memory Gardens.
