William Gray "Willy G." Davenport Jr., of Staunton, Virginia passed away on January 3, 2025, at Augusta Health in Fishersville, Virginia.
He was born in Buffalo Gap, Virginia on June 29, 1947 to the late William Gray Davenport Sr. and Agnes (Childress) Davenport.
William spent time on active duty in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968, where he served in Vietnam. He then began his career at DuPont, where he retired after 40 years. He was a member of Union Baptist Church in Waynesboro, Virginia where he served as a member of the Choir. He also took pride in being a member of the Waynesboro Union Male Chorus. Willy G. was an avid bowler, hunter, fisherman, and a well-known fan of the San Francisco 49ers. One of his favorite quotes was, "There's nothing finer than the 49ers!"
Willy G. was a loved and respected father, son, brother, and friend. He took great pride in his loved ones and lifelong accomplishments.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Eunice Davenport; and four Brothers, Lionel Davenport, Alvin Hart, Zane Davenport, and Maurice Davenport.
He is survived by two sons, Eric Wayne Davenport of Spartanburg, SC. and Travis Eugene Davenport of Staunton, Virginia; his first wife, Theresa Davenport; siblings, Walter Davenport, Wanda Davenport, Sylvia Davenport, and Jeff Henderson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members. He is also survived by his second wife, Tina Davenport.
Regards can be paid to the family from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2025 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, located at 230 Frontier Dr. Staunton, Virginia 24401.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 10, 2025 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel, followed by a graveside ceremony at Oaklawn Memory Gardens by Rev. Earl Pendleton.
Active pallbearers will be Tony Davenport, Berkeley Davenport, Rodney Crawford, Stephen Robinson, Tyler Newman, James Howard, Matthew Moon, and John Myers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in honor of William, to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, Virginia 22312.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
