Obituary

William Edward Bill Showalter, 75, husband of Wanda L. Showalter of 340 Galena Road, passed away Saturday, July 23, 2016 at his residence.
Mr. Showalter was born on September 4, 1940 in Franklin, West Virginia, a son of Anna Lynn (Simpson) Racca and the late John William Showalter.
As a child while Bills mother was working, he and his two sisters were cared for by his grandparents, the late Edward Clyde and Lula Cordelia (Propst) Simpson.
Mr. Showalter was an active member of Memorial Baptist Church for over forty years serving as Chairman of the Finance Committee and the Deacon Board, he served as Sunday School Director and was a member of The Mens Fellowship Sunday School Class. Bill was a retired veteran of the United States Air Force serving his country proudly for 20 years. Prior to his retiring from Kitchn Cookd Potato Chip Company as a truck driver, he was employed with Zaccaria Realty as a realtor, was a Manager with Dixie Gas and Oil and owner and operator of the Auto Washland on Richmond Road. He was an avid golfer, he enjoyed hunting, rooting for his Washington Nationals, and watching NASCAR along with all other sporting events.
In addition to his father, Mr. Showalter was preceded in death by his step-father, Manuel S. Racca; a brother, James Manuel Butch Racca and two sisters, Marion Frances Bunny Racca and Roxanna Hilbert.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 57 years and his mother of Staunton is a son, Eric William Showalter of Staunton; a daughter, Velina Lynn Phelps and her husband Doug of Marietta, OH; a brother, Thomas R. Racca and his wife Marianne of Gainesville, VA; two sisters, Ella S. Makely and her husband LeRoy of Harrisonburg and Jaunita S. Rexrode and her husband Charles A. of Staunton; a sister-in-law, Vickie Racca of Bridgewater; a brother-in-law, Glenn Hilbert of Hanover, MD; four grandchildren, T.N. William White, Christopher A. B. White, Sean D. Phelps and Carrie L. Phelps; two great grandchildren, Asher G. White and Sterling D. Phelps and his pet cat Tiger.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, July 25, 2016 in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A Funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2016 in Memorial Baptist Church, Staunton, Virginia by Pastor Mark W. Jones and Pastor Temple D. Myers.
A Graveside service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, 2016 in the Kline Cemetery, Upper Tract, West Virginia.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of The Mens Fellowship Sunday School Class.
It is suggested those desiring make memorial contributions to Memorial Baptist Church, c/o The Mens Fellowship Class Every Child Ministry, 224 Taylor Street, Staunton, VA 24401.
