William Eugene Gene Earhart, 95, husband of Helen (Swortzel) Earhart of 443 Hotchkiss Road, Churchville, passed away Wednesday, February 29, 2012 in Kings Daughters Community Health.
He was born May 16, 1916 in Newport, VA, a son of the late Walter Eugene and Flora (Desper) Earhart.
Mr. Earhart was a graduate of Brownsburg High School. He was a long time member of New Providence Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder and Clerk of the Session. After moving to Churchville he became a member of the Loch Willow Presbyterian Church. Early in his life he was a farmer and later in life employment led him to areas of other types of agriculture related businesses.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Earhart was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Miley Earhart, a sister, Katherine (Earhart) Fauver, two half-sisters, Ruby Earhart Moneymaker and Neva Earhart.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-eight years, a nephew, Patrick Earhart and a sister-in-law; Myra Earhart both of Charlottesville; a long and faithful friend, Edwin Galvin also survives.
Mr. Earhart was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
A service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 4, 2012 in the Loch Willow Presbyterian Church in Churchville by the Rev. Reed Hopkins.
Burial will be in the Green Hill Cemetery in Churchville.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Active pallbearers will be Dr. D. Michael Cromer, Nicholas Collins, Ronald Galvin, Carl Sheets, Harold Armstrong, Trent Showalter, Lyle Hull and Harry Crosby.
It is suggested that memorial contributions be made to Loch Willow Presbyterian Church, Renovation Fund, Post Office Box 85, Churchville, VA 24421.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
