William David Harrison
STAUNTON:
William David Dick Harrison, 57 husband of Margaret (Shumate) Harrison of 92 Audubon Street, passed away Saturday, (June 6, 2009) in the University of Virginia Medical Center.
David was born in Huntington, West Virginia on March 31, 1952 a son of the late Robert and Jacqueline (Dawson) Dick.
He was an U.S. veteran of the Army and a Fireman for the City of Staunton with 22 years of service, retiring in January 2000.
David was an Adjunct Instructor with the National Fire Academy, a member of the Firefighters Union, the International Firefighters Association and the Waynesboro First Aid Crew. He was a graduate of Robert Lee High School class of 1970, an avid Washington Redskin Fan, NHRA Drag racing and especially enjoyed the Star Trek series.
In addition to his wife, to whom he married on October 4, 1975, survivors include two sons; Brian D. Harrison and his friend Donna Curry and Shawn P. Harrison and his friend Mary Jane Daily all of Staunton; a brother and sister-in-law, Eddie Dick and his wife Grace of Verona; four sisters-in-law Clara Densmore of Princeton, WVA, Judy Eller of Crozet, Linda Hill of Staunton and Patricia Stuart of Greenwood; a granddaughter, Trinity Pitts and a special little girl, Katilyn; a great-granddaughter Jordan Pitts; five nephews and two nieces also survive.
A graveside service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, (June 9, 2009) in the Thornrose Cemetery by William L. and Ann H. Ashworth.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory or his residence at other times.
Active pallbearers will be his two sons, Brian and Shawn Harrison, Michael Dawson, Nick Stuart, Chris McDorman and Willie Maiden.
It is suggested those desiring make memorial contributions to the Widows, Orphans and Disabled Firemens Fund, 2900 West Temple Street, Los Angeles, Ca. 90026.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
