William Clyde Bill Cason, Jr., 79, widow of Nancy (Canning) Cason formerly of 705 Old White Hill Road, passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2018 in Brookdale Assisted Living.
Mr. Cason was born on September 30, 1938 in Staunton, a son of the late
William Clyde Pop, Sr., and Pansy (Shifflet) Cason.
Bill was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church and together with his wife, they founded the food pantry at the church. He was retired from DuPont where he worked in maintenance, he was a member of Camp #316 with Woodman of the World where he served as Youth Leader and also did the maintenance and mowing. Mr. Cason also drove the activity school buses for Riverheads and Stuarts Draft High Schools, he was a Boy Scout Leader in support of his son, Phil, and he enjoyed playing fast-pitch softball, and being outside especially sitting on his porch.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Cason was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Cason.
Surviving is a son, Phil S. Cason and his wife Sook of California; two daughters, (care givers) Deborah Truslow and her husband Tony of Stuarts Draft and Donna Kiser and her husband Jeffrey of New Hope; four grandchildren, Jessica Cason,
Stephanie Cason, Reba Parrish and her husband Tyler, and Nathaniel Kiser; three great-grandchildren, Hunter Parrish, Levi Parrish, and Jace Colvin; special friends, Bob Brooks, Harry Swecker, Nelson Boyers, and Wallace Pilson.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 25, 2018 in Calvary United Methodist Church and other times at the residence.
A Celebration of life will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 26, 2018 in the Calvary United Methodist Church by Pastor Charlie Reynolds and Pastor Nancy Vaughn.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be sons-in-law Tony Truslow and Jeffrey Kiser, grandson, Nathaniel Kiser, and friends, Nelson Boyers, Harry Swecker, and Ron Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers will be staff at the Calvary United Methodist Church Food Pantry.
It is suggested those desiring make memorial contributions to the Calvary United Methodist Food Pantry, 2179 Stuarts Draft Highway, Stuarts Draft, Virginia 24477 or the Augusta Health Foundation, Hospice of the Shenandoah, Post Office Box 1000, Fishersville, Virginia 22939.
The family would like to extend a special Thank You to the staff of Brookdale Assisted Living and Hospice of the Shenandoah for the care given to Mr. Cason during his illness.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton, is in charge of his arrangements.
