William Walter Bud Sweet, 88, widower of Betty JoAnn (Buchanan) Sweet, of 919 Augusta Farms Road, passed away Thursday, January 19, 2017 at the home of his son on Forest Springs Drive in Stuarts Draft.

Mr. Sweet was born on October 14, 1928 in Rockbridge County, Virginia, a son of the late William Wallace and Una Lucy (Hutchens) Sweet.

Bud was a member of Mt. Vernon Church of the Brethren, he retired as a truck driver and enjoyed Drag Racing with his family.

In addition to his wife of 62 years, and his parents, Mr. Sweet was preceded in death by three sisters, Gladys Morris, Elizabeth Mowbry, and Lorene Early.

Surviving are two sons, Dennis L. Sweet and his wife Brenda and Gary W. Sweet and his wife Lori all of Stuarts Draft; two brothers, Arthur Sweet of Daleville, and Harry Sweet of Winston Salem, NC; a sister, Edith Stickley of Weyers Cave; three grandchildren, Amanda Sweet, Seth Sweet, and Skyler Sweet; and a great-grandson, Gage Sweet also survive.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, January 22, 2017 in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the homes of his two sons.

A Celebration of life will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 23, 2017 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Dwight Roetteo.

Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park.

Active pallbearers will be Seth Sweet, Joel Tutt, Homer Coffey, Gene Robinette, Robert Kelley, and Floyd Montoya.

It is suggested those desiring make memorial contributions to the Mt. Vernon Church of the Brethren, 90 Mt. Vernon Road, Waynesboro, Virginia 22980.

Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton, is in charge of his arrangements.
