William G. Bowden

CRAIGSVILLE:

William Guy Bowden, 64, of 219 Oak Street, passed away peacefully into eternal life at his residence on Thursday, November 24, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Guy was born January 20, 1947 in Augusta County; a son of Virginia Alene Gaylor Bowden and the late Thomas Herndon Bowden
Mr. Bowden was a retired Correctional Officer having served at Staunton and Augusta Correctional Centers. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Guy was known to many as a good electrician, friend and neighbor. He was a talented handy man and always willing to help others.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sons
Michael Bowden and wife Amber of Lexington and Cory Bowden, Sr. and fianc Amanda Whitlock of Craigsville, three brothers, James and wife Margie Bowden of Rockbridge Baths, Eugene Bowden and wife Vickie of Craigsville, Charles Bowden and wife Debbie of Goshen; three sisters, Bernadine Reid and husband Larry of Goshen, Delores Puckett and husband Charlie of Craigsville, and Carolyn Byram and husband Clarence of Goshen; three grandchildren, C.J. Bowden, Jr., Summer Bowden and Gracie Bowden; a special nephew who was thought of as a son, Kenneth S. Stevie Campbell of Craigsville, a special niece and caregiver Crystal Wilcher of Craigsville, and a number of nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 28, 2011 in Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Linwood Wilkes and Mr. Donald Minter.
Burial will follow in the Lebanon Presbyterian Church Cemetery with military rites.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, November 27, 2011 in Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at his residence.
Active pallbearers will be Guys brothers, James, Eugene, and Charlie and brothers-in-law, Clarence Byram, Charlie Puckett, and Larry Reid, and special friend J. P. Fridley.
Honary pallbearers will be Dr. Richard Elsea, Steve Smiley and Rudy Bazzrea
It is suggested that memorial contributions be made to the
Augusta Hospice of the Shenandoah, 64 Sports Medicine Drive, Fishersville, Virginia 22980.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
