William Thomas Bill Mixon, Jr., 85, husband of Jacqueline Jackie (Hartley) Mixon, of 241 Wyndham Hill Drive, passed away Saturday, August 1, 2015 at his residence.
Mr. Mixon was born on October 30, 1929 in Aiken County, SC, a son of the late William Thomas, Sr. and Frances (Martin) Mixon.
Bill was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church, was a veteran of the United States Naval Reserves and retired in 1989 from Sara Lee Corporation as an Operations Manager. Following his retirement, Bill wanting something to do and being a people person, he went to work as a host at Cracker Barrel of Staunton for ten years. He was a member of the Jamil Shrine Temple, the Sinclair Masonic Lodge #154 both in Columbia, SC and the Sons of Confederate Veterans, of which Mr. Mixon had two-grandfathers who fought and survived the Civil War.
Surviving in addition to his wife Jackie of sixty-seven years, are two
sons, Tom Mixon and his wife Terri of Staunton and Greg Mixon of Stuarts Draft; a daughter, Mindy M. Da Silva and her husband Carlos of Lexington, SC; two sisters, Mildred Wood and Ann Epps both of West Columbia, SC; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a special niece, Mickey Bradley of West Columbia, SC.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 8, 2015 at Crossroads Baptist Church by Pastor Heath Spivey.
The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
