William John Bill Haessly, 91, husband of Anita Haessly of Staunton, went to be with his Lord on Monday, November 27, 2017 at his residence.
Mr. Haessly was born on December 20, 1925 in Salem, Ohio, a son of the late Arthur Leo and Mary Helen (Gallagher) Haessly.
Bill was a long term member of Second Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder, and sang in the choir as well as other positions within the church. He grew up along with his three sisters in Salem, Ohio. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army during World War II, serving his country proudly in the Army Aviation Corp. He received his degree from Cleveland State University. Bill was a bank manager for many years in Dravosburg, Pennsylvania and retired as owner/salesman of McPherson Blair in Staunton, Virginia. Mr. Haessly was a pilot and a member of the E.A.A. serving as the Airport Commissioner at Shenandoah Valley Airport for fifteen years, and was a member of the Rotary Club. He always had an interest in aviation, was an avid golfer and enjoyed photography.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Haessly was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Kathleen Haessly; and two sisters, Mary Lou Loudon and Donna Mort.
Surviving is his beloved wife, Anita of forty-four years, two daughters, Caroline Haessly and her husband Paul Fussell of Issaquah, Washington, and Jane Marie Janie Whitman and her husband Terry of Traverse City, Michigan; three step-daughters, Linda Marie Armstrong and Kathy Wade and her husband John both of Verona and Mary Armstrong Driver and her husband David of Stuarts Draft; a sister, Marjorie Ann Margie Brubeck and her husband Norm of Baltimore, Maryland; ten grandchildren, Michael Whitman and wife Katie, Crystal Rogers and husband Brian, Jon Clark, Brooke Driver, Josh Driver and wife Ashley, Shelly Wade, Kristy Wade, and Nathan Wade and wife Elizabeth, Alexandra and Tara Fussell; great-grandchildren, Riley Renner and Olivia Whitman, Trinity Hamilton, Mason Driver, and his sister, Kaylee, Maleah, Gunner, and Nayland Wade and Jayvien and Jaziah Wade-Chisley; and a number of nieces and nephews that loved him dearly.
A Celebration of life will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 2, 2017 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Wade Munford and Pastor Evan Smith.
Burial will follow in Thornrose Cemetery.
