William Levi "Bill" Chafin, Jr., 71, husband of Dianne (Huffman) Chafin of Mount Sidney, passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at his residence.
Mr. Chafin was born in Bristol, Virginia on January 31, 1949, a son of the late William Levi Chafin, Sr. and Lola (Hawkins) Chafin.
As a young child, Bill and his family moved to the Staunton area. He graduated from Fort Defiance High School in 1967 and received his Associate's Degree from Blue Ridge Community College. Bill was an active member of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church and retired from Alcoa Flexible Packaging in Grottoes with thirty-five years of service. He was a member of the Mt. Sidney Ruritan Club, and President and coach of the Verona Community Association for many years, where he touched many lives. He loved being a part of his grandchildren's activities and was their biggest fan and the loudest one in the stands.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Chafin was preceded in death by a brother,
James A. Chafin.
Surviving in addition to his wife of fifty-one years, is a daughter, Brooke (Chafin) Campbell and her husband, Michael; a son, Brett Chafin and his wife, Shannon; three grandchildren, Abigail Ryan Campbell, Paige Callahan Chafin, and Conner Michael Campbell, all of Mount Sidney; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other loved family members.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2021 in the Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery by Pastor Derek Boggs.
The family will receive friends following the service.
