Wiley Jameson Hart's Obituary

Wiley Jameson Hart died at home on October 31, 2021 in Crimora, VA.

Wiley is survived by his brothers Steve (Cathie) of Waynesboro and Bill (Nelda) of Houston, his nephews Matt and Wes and his nieces Wendy, Ashley, and Samantha. He was preceded in death by his parents Ed and Jean (Reber) Hart and his brother, Tom.

Wiley was born on July 7, 1955, in Queens, N.Y. The family moved to Virginia in 1961, and Wiley graduated from Fort Defiance High School and Virginia Tech with a BS in Psychology.

Wiley loved to travel, to see new things and meet new people, and to listen to music. To no ones surprise, soon after graduation from Virginia Tech he embarked on a career as a long haul truck driver, accompanied by his faithful canine companion, Roadie, and a multitude of cassette tapes. Sometimes "tag-teaming with his brother, Tom, he crisscrossed the country for many years, sending home pictures, cards, and letters from nearly every state. One of his dreams was to someday drive to Alaska to see the Northern Lights. Oh the stories he could tell- some of which may have even been true.

Our parents had a love of poetry and song and passed it on to their four sons (none of us could sing). As the youngest, Wiley was often called upon to perform, and after our parents passed away, Wiley was front and center keeping our family traditions alive and well and sometimes adding his own selections, such as "Invictus:"
It matters not how straight the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate;
I am the Captain of my soul."

Wiley was living in Crimora with his rescue dog LD when he was called to eternal peace. The family would like to thank the members of St. John's Episcopal Church, where he spent many happy hours talking with fellow members and stuffing Backpacks for Kids, and helping out in the Disciples Kitchen. And we would also like to offer special thanks to Dot Main, his dear friend and angel, and Roger and Sharon Canevet, old friends who were always there for Wiley.

Always able to surprise us with tidbits of knowledge from who-knows-where, we are going to miss you Baby Brother. Enjoy the Lights.

The traditional Hart Family private ceremony and spreading of the ashes will take place at a date to be determined.

Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
