Walter A. Bailey, Sr.
MT. SOLON Walter Allen Bailey Sr., 74, husband of Nancy (Talley) Wiseman Bailey, of 42 Big Hill Lane, passed away Monday, May 27, 2013, at Envoy of Staunton.
Mr. Bailey was born in Salem, June 9, 1938, a son of the late Silas Bailey Sr. and Sally (Miller) Bailey.
Walter was a member of Christian Fellowship Baptist Church in Swoope and was a veteran of the United States Marines. He was retired from the Yokohama Tire Corporation where he had worked as a lineman.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Bailey was preceded in death by two brothers, Silis Bailey Jr. and Alfred Bailey and a sister, Annie Thompson.
Surviving in addition to his wife whom he married, March 26, 2000, is a son, Walter Allen Bailey Jr. and his wife, Teresa, of Roanoke; a stepson, Preston Wiseman and his wife, Ellen, of Harrisonburg; three sisters, Jeanetta Clark of Roanoke who loved him with all her heart, Delores Brown of Troutville and Linda Winebarger of Roanoke; a grandson, Gavin Bailey; three stepgrandchildren, Ryan Bailey, Katlyn Bailey and Serena Wiseman and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
A celebration of life will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, May 31, 2013, at the Christian Fellowship Baptist Church by the Rev. Gary Hodges.
Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2013, at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the residence.
Active pallbearers will be Rick Diehl, Terry Peggs, Rob Byrd, Scott Campbell, Rick Culpen and Phil Martin.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Adult II Sunday School Class.
It is suggested those desiring make memorial contributions to the Christian Fellowship Baptist Church Youth Group, 1215 Buffalo Gap Highway, Swoope, VA 24479.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive is in charge of his arrangements.
