Vivian Odear (Skeens) Johnston, 80, of 735 Dabneys Road and formerly of Spotsylvania County, went to her heavenly home on Friday, September 4, 2015 after a yearlong courageous battle with cancer.
Mrs. Johnston was born on October 16, 1934 in Russell County, Virginia, a daughter of the late Davis Stafford and Cora (Breeding) Skeens.
Vivian was a retired owner of Chancellor Company, Inc. She loved special times with her family, and she enjoyed preparing delicious meals for all to enjoy. Being a strong willed individual, she overcame many challenges in her life, through disappointments, heartaches and health issues. During her final days she found comfort knowing God was with her as she was told many times by her daughter-in-law there were no earthly sorrows that Heaven would not solve.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Johnston was preceded in death by two brothers, an infant brother and Wilson Clifford Sob Skeens.
Surviving is a son, Abner Nash Johnston, IV and his wife Clara May and a grandson, William Nash Johnston; two brothers, Johnny Swaine Skeen and wife Maxie and Guy Virgil Skeens and his wife Linda; six sisters, Donnie Lee Carter and her husband Don, Ettis Romonia Back, Cara Bell Musick and her husband Kermit, Mary Irene Conner and her husband Tommy, Mable Jean Turner and her husband Don and Charlene Ann Phillips and her husband Cletus; and a special friend, Bonnie Coffey Burjoice.
A private graveside service will be conducted at the Russell Memorial Cemetery in the Memorial Chapel Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers the family requests you to do a good deed for someone in memory of Mrs. Johnston.
