Virginia Ginny (Christian) Brand, 95, widow of William Finley Brand formerly of Donaghe Street, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2016 in the Shenandoah Nursing Home in Fishersville.
Mrs. Brand was born on April 11, 1920 in Rockingham County, a daughter of the late Charles Renick and Maybelle (Hite) Christian.
Virginia was a member of Second Presbyterian Church and retired in 1981 from the US Department of Forestry where she was employed as a secretary. She was a former member of the Parkview Garden Club, the Rebecca Kerr Auxiliary of the old Kings Daughters Hospital and the Shenandoah Quilting Club. Mrs. Brand enjoyed volunteering her time with Meals on Wheels and helped in the S.P.C.A. Benefit Shop.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Brand was preceded in death by an infant son, John Orvil Brand and a daughter, Ellen (Brand) Bradley; and five brothers, Charles W., James M., John R., Robert E. and Hugh A. Christian.
Surviving is a son, Charles Brand and his wife Margaret of Staunton; two grandchildren, Leigh A. Bradley and her significant other, John Southwick of Staunton and Mary B. (Bradley) Whalen and her husband Joe of Northern, VA; a great-granddaughter, Sophia Lucille Whalen; son-in-law, E. Wayne Bradley and his significant other, Cindy Lee Cox of Staunton; a special niece, Lola Strickler and her husband Ronnie of Mt. Sidney; and additional nieces and nephews also survive.
A Graveside service will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2016 in the Thornrose Cemetery by Rev. Evan R. Smith.
