Thurman Geane Fitzgerald, Sr., 73, husband of Mary L. (Foxx) Fitzgerald of 2087 Parkersburg Turnpike passed away Thursday, September 18, 2014 in the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.
Mr. Fitzgerald was born on August 4, 1941, in West View, Virginia, a son of the late James and Lottie Herman (Shuey) Fitzgerald.
Thurman was a member of Christian Fellowship Baptist and attended Jerusalem Chapel Church. Mr. Fitzgerald retired from McQuay International after forty years of service as a machinist. He enjoyed hunting, working with lawn mowers and the outdoors.
In addition to his parents Mr. Fitzgerald was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents who raised him, Louis and Bessie Shuey; and a twin brother, Herman Fitzgerald.
Surviving in addition to his wife is a son, Thurman G. T.J Fitzgerald, Jr. of Staunton; two daughters, Lisa D. Woodward and husband, Dean of Smithsburg, MD and Melissa M. Coffman and husband, Warren of Mt. Solon; four brothers, Harold Fitzgerald, Dale Fitzgerald, Jim Fitzgerald, and Gary Fitzgerald all of Roanoke; three sisters, Shirley Conner of Staunton, Debbie Huff of Vinton, Va. and Sherry Dunkin of Roanoke; five grandchildren, Kristen Armstrong and her husband Matthew, Thomas Price, Kaitlyn Fitzgerald, Blake Coffman, and Aden Coffman; three great-grandchildren, Kaileigh Armstrong, Autumn Armstrong, and Austyn Armstrong; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, September 22, 2014, in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A Celebration of life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 23, 2014, in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Darren Howdyshell.
Burial will follow in the Oaklawn Memory Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Junior Knott, Phillip Chaplin, Jr., Travis Stone, Jonathan Fisher, Daniel Fisher, and Tim Conner.
