Thomas Wayne Tommy Newlen, 56, husband of Joanna (Fitzgerald) Newlen of 720 Perry Street passed away Monday, August 11, 2014 at his residence.
Mr. Newlen was born on July 18, 1958 in Staunton, a son of the late Edward Bryan and Delores Jean (Robertson) Newlen.
Thomas attended Greenville Full Gospel Church. He enjoyed playing cornhole, drag racing, NASCAR and was passionate about classic Mustangs.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Newlen was preceded in death by a niece, Holly Newlen, a great nephew, Christopher Morris and a great-niece, Tyleighah Lynn Newlen.
Surviving in addition to his loving wife of seven years is a daughter, Amy E. Simmons and her husband Rex of Waynesboro; a step-daughter, Samantha L. Allen of Staunton; three brothers, Robert Robertson and his wife Ellen, David Newlen and Ricky Newlen and his fiance Susan Detamore all of Staunton; two sisters, Dana Cash and her husband Gene of Churchville and Gail Cash and her husband Hampton of Craigsville; two granddaughters, Allysa and Natalie Simmons and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, August 14, 2014 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the residence.
A Celebration of life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 15, 2014 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Timothy W. Simmons.
Burial will follow in the Oaklawn Memory Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be his brothers, Robert, Ricky and David, and Rex Simmons, Karl Ward, Tony Fox, Tyler Fox, Phil Bryant, Nathan Newlen and Scott Cash.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
