Thomas Garland Koogler, age 92, of Staunton, VA passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2026 at his home with his loved ones.
Born on April 6, 1934 in Spottswood, VA to the late William Mangus and Leslie Ann Lamb Koogler.
After graduating from Spottswood High School, he joined the Navy and served as Second Class Petty Officer on 4 aircraft carriers. After he was discharged, he worked a short time at Sperry and DuPont. He was self-employed, thereafter, owning Koogler Sales and Service RV Center and built Walnut Hills Campground where thousands have enjoyed his creation. He met and made friends with many people over the years. He enjoyed traveling all over North America with his wife. Many friends enjoyed traveling with them. He enjoyed gardening, restoring antique cars, and building family homes. He loved his family and cherished spending time with them especially his grandsons.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven brothers; Louis, Vincent, Lyle, Melvin, John, Elmer, and Glenn Koogler and his three sisters; Evelyn Harris, LaRue Baber, and Emily Schwab.
He is survived by his loving wife of seventy years, Gaytha (Baber) Koogler; his two sons, Michael “Mike” and his wife, Cheryl, of South Carolina and Charles “Charlie” and his wife, Patricia “Patti”, of Staunton; his brother, David and his wife, Margie, of Texas; his sister-in-law, Charlotte Koogler, of Raphine; his grandsons, Thomas “Tommy” and Jonathan “Jonny” of Staunton; his step-grandchildren, Nicole Mader and her husband, Charles “Charlie” of Maryland and Timothy Bandell and his wife, Jaclyn, of North Carolina; numerous step-greatgrandchildren; and his loving care giver, Jeanne Sullenger.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A celebration of life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 30, 2026 at Vesuvius Baptist Church by Pastor John Hamric.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Shenandoah (Augusta Health Foundation, c/o Hospice of the Shenandoah, P. O. Box 1000, Fishersville, Virginia 22939) and Riverheads Volunteer Fire Department (49 Swartzel Shop Road, Staunton, Virginia 24401).
