Rev. Dr. Thomas Lee Coffman, 94, died on October 19 at his home in Richmond. Dr. Coffman, the son of the late Raymon and Veatrice Coffman, was born on June 15, 1927 near Elkins, WVA.
He was a graduate of Bridgewater College, United Theological Seminary, and awarded an honorary doctorate degree from Shenandoah University. He retired from the ministry after serving various churches in the Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church for 64 years. He was the District Superintendent of both the Farmville and Winchester districts and served as the president of the Retired Clergy Housing Corporation of Virginia. He was a veteran of the US Marine Corps serving during WW II and the Korean Conflict.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Marie Robinson Coffman (mother of his children) and his sister, Willa Grace Coffman. Dr. Coffman is survived by his wife, Nancy Bowlin Coffman, his sons and their wives, Stephen and Beverley, Jerry and Susan, Kevin and Christine, his step-children and their spouses, Debbie and Gary Williamson, Keith Southall, Diane and Paul Lovell, Cheryl and Mark Fulghum and so enjoyed his 15 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister, Judith Coffman.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 29 at 1:00 pm at Providence United Methodist Church in Richmond, VA with a reception to follow. (Masks are encouraged.)
