Thomas Bransford "Tom" Peters, 72, husband of Sadie (Patterson) Peters, passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2019 in Staunton, surrounded by his family and friends.
Mr. Peters was born in Lynchburg, Virginia, a son of the late Clyde Owen and Helen (Morris) Peters.
Tom graduated from E.C Glass High School, Lynchburg College and received his Master's Degree from UVA. He was a teacher and coach at Kate Collins Junior High School, taught and coached football at Fort Defiance High School and was retired from Nationwide Insurance, where he was an Agent for over thirty years. Tom was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, friend, and coach. He touched many lives and will be missed by his family and friends.
Surviving in addition to his wife of forty-nine years, is a daughter, Andrea Jones and her husband Teddy; a son, Brett Peters and his wife Sarah; a sister, Ellen Feagan and her husband Robert; three brothers, Ronnie Peters, Larry Peters, and Roger Peters and his wife Debbie; and proud "PaPa" to three grandchildren, Nicholas Jones, Hudson and Henley Peters. He is also survived by other extended family members.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Bridge Christian Church in Fishersville.
A Celebration of life will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 6, 2019 at Bridge Christian Church by Pastor Todd Brown and Outreach Pastor Stacey Burkholder.
Burial will be private at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Augusta Health Foundation Hospice of the Shenandoah, Post Office Box 1000, Fishersville, Virginia 22939 or the charity of one's choice.
The family would like to give a special "Thank You" to Dr. William Jones and staff, Dr. Abdelmalek, and the staffs at the Augusta Health Hope Center and the Hospice of the Shenandoah, nurse Mary and aide Carolyn for their kindness and care given to Tom during his illness.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton, is in charge of his arrangements.
