Rev. Thomas Malcolm Arner, Sr.'s Obituary

Reverend Thomas "Tom" Malcolm Arner, Sr., 85, husband of Marian Elaine (Sterling) Arner of 15 Hardwood Lane, Staunton, passed away Thursday, September 16, 2021 at Shenandoah Valley Health \u0026 Rehabilitation in Buena Vista.

Reverend Arner was born in Parryville, Pennsylvania on July 3, 1936, a son of the late Malcolm Robert and Violet Mae
(Stroup) Arner.

Thomas was Pastor at St. John's Reformed United Church of Christ for six years until just this January, 2021. He was an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ having served small membership congregations in Pennsylvania and Virginia from 1962 until January 2021. He has contributed to Voices from the Alley: Rural Ministry in the United Church of Christ. He wrote monthly articles for the Centre Daily Times, State College, Pennsylvania. He filled his free time with fishing, hunting, and writing.

He was a faithful member of the Staunton/Augusta Lions Club, was an active Chaplain at Augusta Health and enjoyed writing in his daily journal.

In addition to his parents, Reverend Arner was preceded in death by a grandson, Zachary M. Ledford; and a sister-in-law, Eleanor Strausburger.

Surviving in addition to his wife of sixty-four years are two sons, Thomas M. "Tom" Arner, Jr. and his wife Christine of Warwick, New York and Paul A. Arner and his wife Robin of Lewisburg, Pennsylvania; a daughter, Elise Michelle Mason and her husband Craig of Staunton; a sister, Bernice Musselman and her husband David of Lewes, Delaware; two brothers-in-law, Richard Sterling and Raymond Sterling; seven grandchildren, Dorothy Arner, Beatrice Arner, Niles Arner, Emily Arner, Breanna Youngblood, Rylee Arner, and LeeRoy Mason; a great-granddaughter, Rayne Arner; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at St. John's Reformed United Church of Christ by Rev. Marilyn Heishman.
