Dr. Thom Hoffman Chapman, 80, husband of Sandra J. (Pitts) Chapman of Middlebrook passed away Monday, November 10, 2014 in Greenville.
Dr. Chapman was born on August 4, 1934, in Mercer, PA, a son of the late Dorothy (Phillips) Chapman.
Thom was a member of the McKinley United Methodist Church, he was a retired Navy Captain, serving his country proudly for thirty years on ships including the USS Orion, the USS Shenandoah, and the USS Tidewater. Dr. Chapman traveled around the world with the Navy as an Endodontist. Thom was a member of the N-SSA, a life member of the NRA, he was a history buff on the Civil War, World War II and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping.
In addition to his loving wife of 57 years, Dr. Chapman is survived by four sons, Jeffrey C. Chapman and wife Penny of Mt. Sidney, Brian K. Chapman and wife Tonya of Middlebrook, Craig A. Chapman and wife Deborah, and Kevin L. Chapman and wife Dawn all of VA Beach; four grandchildren, Ashley Taylor and husband Brandon, Kristen Komnick and husband John, Andrew Chapman and fianc Kayla, and Brienne Chapman; four step-grandchildren, Kevina Caricofe, Scott Simonetti, Angie Simonetti, and Taylor Blackwell - Kershner; three step-great grandchildren, Dillon Caricofe, Jacob Caricofe, and Rylee Cross; sister-in-law, Judith Andrews of Douglas, GA; two brothers-in-law Philip Pitts and his wife Karen and John Pitts and his wife Beverly, all of Sharon, PA; and his beloved pet dogs.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, November 13, 2014, in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A Celebration of life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 14, 2014, in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Donald L. Long.
Burial will follow in the McKinley United Methodist Church Cemetery in Middlebrook, VA.
Active pallbearers will be his four sons and Scott Simonetti and Andrew Chapman.
Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
