Tammy Estelle
Helmick
May 20, 1963 – January 23, 2022
Tammy Estelle Helmick, 58, of Waynesboro, passed away on Sunday, January 23, 2022 at Augusta Health in Fishersville.
Mrs. Helmick was born in Waynesboro, Virginia on May 20, 1963, a son of the late Ann Sprouse Helmick and Harry Helmick.
Surviving, is a son, Daniel Boggs; a daughter, Brandy Boggs Huffman, and husband Chris Huffman; grandchildren, Jamari Brown and Justice Huffman; a brother, Harry Helmick, Jr and spouse, Lisa Helmick; a sister, Linda Helmick Simmons; a brother in law, Wayne Shifflett; and her nieces and nephews, Marvin Shifflett and spouse Jamie Kelly, Christina Shifflett, Matthew Shifflett, Harvey Shifflett, Sophia Hopkins and RJ Hopkins.
Tammy loved her grandbabies, her nieces and nephews, and their children. She especially had a close relationship with Jamari and her great nephew Josh. These two typically went to stay with her so they could eat junk, drink sodas, stay up late, be spoiled, do what they wanted, and generally run amuck. And of course, Mawmaw/Nanny let them. Justice, her youngest grandchild and the only granddaughter, was spoiled rotten and had her Mawmaw wrapped around her little finger.
Tammy was close with her brother, Harry and sister, Linda. They didn't agree on much or very often, but that didn't mean that the love didn't flow. If they were needed by one another, each of them were there.
She was affectionately known as "Momma Tammy" to many of Brandy and Daniel's friends. She was picked on often, as she took in all the "strays" that she came across. Her home was often filled with people who may have been staying a bit, or just passing through. If you needed a meal, a place to sleep, a few bucks, or just a chat she was there. For so many people, friends and family alike, her home was home base.
Her door was always open, and it wasn't uncommon to walk in on her and her best friend Julie (Sheren) watching TV and talking about their grown kids, their grandbabies, or any new tidbits of gossip that required sharing. Mom seemed to know what was going on with everybody, and she listened to her scanner non-stop. She probably knew what was going on in Waynesboro at all times, so there was no sense in hiding anything from her, because she would find out eventually anyway. And tell Julie.
Tammy was an avid Nascar fan, and rooted endlessly for her favorite driver, # 48 Jimmie Johnson. Race Sundays were always interesting in her home, as no two people liked the same driver, and if hers won YOU BETTER BE PREPARED TO EAT A SLICE OF HUMBLE PIE, because she would not let you live it down (especially Daniel).
A special word to Chad Campbell, Justin Cole, Whitney "Moose" Cook, nephew Marvin Shifflett, and son in law Chris Huffman – she was the first one to give you guys a hard time and she never hesitated to do it, but you were always there for her and jumped when she said to. Thank you.
Lastly, a heartfelt thank you to her son, Daniel, for dedicating his time and effort to taking care of our mother. You are truly a blessing.
She will be missed by so many.
Services will be announced at a later date.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.
