Sylvia LaRue (White) Brown, 81, widow of Harry L. “Charlie” Brown formerly of Hudson Avenue, Staunton, passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 at the Shenandoah Nursing and Rehabilitation in Fishersville, Virginia.

Mrs. Brown was born in Levelland, Texas on March 30, 1946, a daughter of the late Ima Dee Kelly and Hugh Clifton Brown.

Sylvia worked as a records clerk at several Naval Bases in California, and also a long time Avon representative. She enjoyed playing bingo, QVC shopping, gardening and bird watching.

In addition to her husband and her parents, Sylvia was preceded in death by her life partner, Robert Lucas; her sisters, Laverne Richardson, Pat Fox, and Louise McDonald; her brother, Donald Smith; and grandson, Wade Wilhoit.

Sylvia was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are two sons, John Clifton “Clif” Wilhoit and wife, Vicky of Staunton and Lynn Edward “Eddie” Wilhoit, Jr. and wife, Rita of Swoope; and two grandchildren, Allison Dula and husband, Day and Branson Wilhoit.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 5, 2026 at Oaklawn Memory Gardens.

It is suggested those desiring make memorial contributions to the Staunton-Augusta Regional SPCA, Post Office Box 2014, Staunton, Virginia 24402.

Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.
