Susan Hamilton Cash Whitlock, 57, of Steeles Tavern, VA, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 9, 2011, after a heroic year-long battle with complications from a lung transplant.

Susan led an active and adventurous life. The daughter of Frank Errette Cash, Jr. and Naomi Duncan Cash, she lived overseas in Germany, the Philippines and Turkey; she travelled widely with her Foreign Service family. Susan was a graduate of Walt Whitman High School in Bethesda, MD and the University of Virginia in 1975, the first UVA class to graduate women students. After college, she worked for Marriott Food Services, Wintergreen Resorts and the Boars Head Inn in managerial roles. After earning her brokers license, she worked for Scott \u0026 Stringfellow and Davenport \u0026 Company, LLC, both in Charlottesville, VA. She was at Davenport \u0026 Company LLC for eighteen years as an investment executive. An avid and accomplished horsewoman, Susan showed and instructed in the hunter/jumper division. Throughout her life she loved animals and in recent years enjoyed training retrievers. Susan was also involved with the Waynesboro Kiwanis Club and was the recipient of the Hixson Award for distinguished service.

Susan was the beloved wife of William Allan Pete Whitlock, mother of Jennifer Gregge Johnson both of Steeles Tavern, VA, and the sister of Dr. Hal Duncan Cash of Newton, MA. She is also survived by her first husband, David Johnson, of Baltimore, MD. Numerous family, friends and caregivers helped during the challenge of recovery following her transplant, and we are grateful for all their support.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 12, 2011, at the Robert E Lee Memorial Church, 123 W. Washington Street, Lexington, VA at 11:00 a.m. Following the service there will be a gathering at the Virginia Horse Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
