Obituary

Sue H. Whisman entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on July 3, 2026, at her residence surrounded by the love of her family.

Mrs. Whisman was born on February 10, 1950, a beloved daughter of the late Ed and Dot Hess.

Surviving is her loving husband, Ronnie Whisman; her daughter, Tammy Dietz and son-in-law, Jeff; her son, Matt Whisman and daughter-in-law, Jamie; her granddaughter, Megan (Bill) Collins; her grandsons, Jordan (McKenzie) Painter and Riley Claytor; her great-grandson, Mason Brown; her great-granddaughter, Hayden Painter; her sister, Judy (Donnie) Myers; her nieces, Lori Whisman Caldwell and Mandy Dodson; her very special friend, Bonnie Brown; and all the ladies of the Lunch Bunch.

Sue loved the Lord with all her heart, and her faith guided every aspect of her life. She treasured her family beyond measure and found great joy in spending time with those she loved. An avid reader, Sue would often reach for her book in the middle of the night because she “just had to find out what happened.” She was known to read a book in a day, devouring cozy mysteries and tales set in small towns. When she wasn't reading or spending time with family, she was rewatching all the lively happenings in her beloved fictional village, Cabot Cove.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to Rev. Todd Latham and Mark Bowman for their compassion, support, and guidance; the congregation of Memorial Baptist Church whose many prayers, cards, calls, and visits brought great joy and comfort; Dr. Raybon, Dr. Poulson, and the nurses of Augusta Health; Hospice of the Shenandoah staff, especially a precious nurse, Mary - she's one-of-a-kind and we're grateful for her kindness and care.

A Celebration of Sue’s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at Memorial Baptist Church in Staunton by Pastor Todd Latham.

Sue’s favorite color was purple. If you feel so inclined, the family invites you to wear a touch of purple in her memory.

Immediately following the service, join us for one of Mom's favorite treats, Lemonade on the Lawn-as we gather to celebrate a life filled with faith, family, friendship, and love. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to Memorial Baptist Church, 224 Taylor Street, Staunton, Virginia 24401.

Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton, is in charge of her arrangements.
