STEVEN E. SWORTZEL
STAUNTON:
Steven Eugene Stevie Swortzel, 44, husband of Reba Sue (Evers) Swortzel of 40 Morris Mill Road, passed away Saturday, January 1, 2011 at his residence.
Mr. Swortzel was born in Staunton on October 8, 1966.
Stevie was a very active member and part of Linden Heights Baptist Church serving on various committees including the Brotherhood Committee, the Handymans Club, Praise in the Park Committee, Building and Grounds Committee and the Kitchen Committee. He was also a member of the Path Finders Sunday School Class.
Stevie graduated from VSDB in 1988 and attended New River Community College. He was an active member of the Shenandoah Valley Club of the Deaf where he served as a Board Member and former Vice-President. He was a wonderful husband, father, son and a friend to all.
Stevie was full of life and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with his family and many special friends.
Mr. Swortzel was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Mr. Lyle Deaver, paternal grandfather, Mr. Robert M. Flint and father-in-law, Mr. Norman L. Evers, Jr.
In addition to his wife to whom he married on June 17, 1995, Stevie is survived by his parents, Ronald Doc and Peggy Ann (Deaver) Flint of Staunton; a daughter, Kathryn-Ann Gail Swortzel at home; maternal grandmothers, Mrs. Louise Deaver and Mrs. Virginia (Hostetter) Flint both of Staunton; his mother-in-law, Brenda E. Evers Miller of Dayton, VA; special aunt Katherine Kitty Sensabaugh and her husband Jerry of Staunton; an uncle Ronnie Simmons of Harrisonburg; an Older Sister Mona McGuire of Staunton and a number of cousins and many many special close friends.
Active pallbearers will be Steven Blehm, Mark Fletcher, Michael Robinson, David Riley, Brian Straway, Dale Fravel, Sam Barker and Scott Wine.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Path Finders Sunday School Class.
A celebration of life will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2011 in Linden Heights Baptist Church by Pastors David Anderson, Luke Smith and John Sullivan.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 to 8:00 p.m. at the church or at other times the residence of his father and mother, Doc and Peggy Flint, 908 Buttermilk Spring Road, Staunton.
It is suggested those desiring to make memorial contributions to the Linden Heights Baptist Church Building Fund, 371 Linden Drive, Staunton, VA 24401 or to RMH Hospice, 2010 Health Campus Drive, Harrisonburg, VA 22801.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the many friends, doctors and nurses that provided care to Stevie during his illness.
