Stacey Lynn Mitchell, 57, Seven Springs Lane, Fort Defiance, passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at Augusta Health in Fishersville.

Mr. Mitchell was born in Staunton, Virginia on December 3, 1965. He was raised by his grandfather, Grover Mitchell and Blanche (Wilson) Mitchell.

Stacey was employed at VDOT and enjoyed spending his spare time at Douthat State Park with his fiancé, Kathy, hunting, working on trucks, and riding his motorcycle. Stacey would often go out of his way to help those in need and loved to make others laugh.

In addition to those who raised him, Mr. Mitchell was preceded in death by a sister, Teresa Hostetter; an uncle, Pete Wilson; and his mother, Wilma Huffer.

Surviving, is his fiancé of 18 years, Kathy S. Waliky of Fort Defiance; a son, Matthew G. Mitchell and his companion, Rebecka Miller of Craigsville; a daughter, Meghan L. Soffel and her spouse, Rachal E. Soffel of Greenville; a brother, Wayne Cowles and his spouse, Debbie of Crimora; a sister, Kimberly D. Miller and her spouse, Jerry of Churchville; and five grandchildren, Miah, Patrick, Lincoln, Finnley, and Avery.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 3, 2023 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Claudette Wilcher.

Burial will follow in Miller Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery in Augusta Springs. The family will receive friends following burial at the graveside.

Active pallbearers will be his son, Matthew Mitchell, his brother, Wayne Cowles, Marshall Sprouse, Tommy Humphreys, Aaron Blessing, and Matt Pritt.
