Obituary

Silvio Alan Zaccaria, 70, husband of Sharon (McAllister) Zaccaria of Mt. Sidney, Va. died April 1, 2018 at Augusta Health, surrounded by his family. He battled a courageous fight with diabetes, kidney failure and dialysis.

Silvio was born May 23, 1947 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and was the son of Anthony and Jessie (Ridgeway) Zaccaria. He moved to Mt. Sidney in 1958.

Silvio was preceded in death by both parents and his brother, Dr. Robert Zaccaria.

Those surviving include wife of 49 years, Sharon Zaccaria, daughter Kristina Annette Zaccaria of Harrisonburg VA, a son and daughter-in law Domenic Alan and Shannon Ann Zaccaria of Verona VA, and brother Gerald Andrew Zaccaria of Staunton VA. Also remaining to treasure his memory are two granddaughters (Anna Katherine and Lila Hayes), numerous nieces and nephews, and close friends. He also leaves his furry companions Buzz and Kitty-Cat who provided comfort throughout his illness.

After graduating from Fort Defiance High School in 1965, Silvio attended Strayer Junior College and received a degree in automated accounting from ITT Educational Services in Washington, D. C. He worked for Layton Yancey CPA in Staunton, taught classes at Dunsmore Business College and Real Estate classes at Blue Ridge Community College. He worked in the IBM department for the City of Staunton and was assistant office manager for Riddleberger Brothers in Harrisonburg, VA. In 1973 Silvio joined his Dad in the family business, Zaccaria Realty in Mt. Sidney, VA. where he was broker until his death.

He was a life-time member of Augusta Stone Church in Fort Defiance, VA. serving as Deacon.

Silvio was a member of the local, state and national association of realtors. He served all offices in the local association which is now known as the Greater Augusta Association of Realtors and was inducted into the 2017 Realtor Hall of Fame. He was a charter president of the Fort Defiance High School Sportsman Club, charter member of the Staunton Lions Club,a member of the Mt. Sidney Ruitan Club and belonged to the Elks Lodge # 351. For many years Silvio and his Dad sponsored a Zaccaria Realty Fast pitch ball team where wonderful friendships and memories were made.

Silvio's wish was to be cremated. The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 4, 2018 from 2:00-4:00pm and again from 6:00-8:00pm at Silvio and Sharon's home (432 Leaport Road, Mt. Sidney VA 24467). A funeral service will be conducted Thursday, April 5, 2018 at 2:00pm at Augusta Stone Presbyterian Church in Fort Defiance, VA. by Mrs. Kim Cash and Rev. Temple Myers. A burial will follow at the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Anthony and Jessie Zaccaria Memorial Scholarship Fund, Blue Ridge Community College, Box 801 College Lane, Weyers Cave, VA 24486.

The family would like to thank Hospice of the Shenandoah, the support staff at Davita of Staunton, the vascular nurses of Augusta Health, and loving friends who supported them during Silvio's illness with cards, visits, food and phone calls. Every act of kindness was greatly appreciated.
