Shirley Jean (Hoover) Welcher, 72, widow of John Junior Welcher of 235 Brown Ridge Lane passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2015 in Augusta Health in Fishersville.
Mrs. Welcher was born on April 26, 1943 in Staunton, a daughter of the late Emory Houston and Virginia Frances (Gwin) Hoover.
Shirley was a faithful member of the Joyful Sound Church, a church in which she so dearly loved, she was retired from Genesco-L-Greif Company and she enjoyed using her IPad, cooking and caring for her grandkids.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Welcher was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Hoover and five sisters, Margie Landrum, Mary Hoover, Nellie Woods, Betty Hoover and Ruth Woods.
Surviving is a son, John Henry Welcher and his fiance April of Craigsville; two daughters, Doris Ann Welcher and Mary K. Sprouse and her husband Ervine all of Craigsville; two brothers, William Hoover of Staunton and Loyd Houston Hoover of Columbus, OH; a sister, Annie Hartman of Staunton; six grandchildren, Shawn Welcher and his wife Samantha, Eric Welcher, Holly Sprouse, Michael Sprouse, John JJ Welcher and James Welcher; four-great grandchildren, Caleb Welcher, Jamie Welcher, Serenity Welcher and Destiny Welcher and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
A Celebration of life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 21, 2015 in the Joyful Sound Church by Pastor Michael Herring. The family will receive friends following the service.
Burial will be in the Craigsville Community Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Shawn Welcher, Eric Welcher, Tony Woods, Joey Sampson, Johnny Campbell and Tommy Humphries. It is suggested those desiring make memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, 420 Neff Avenue, Suite 210, Harrisonburg, VA 22801.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.
