Shirley Ann (Sweet) Cline, age 81, died peacefully on Sunday, July 19, 2020 at her home in Staunton, VA.
Born April 27, 1939 in Rockbridge Baths, VA she was the daughter of the late Hubert Carl Sweet and Rose (Painter) Sweet.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Henry C. Sweet of Staunton; and two sisters, Betty Jean Garrett of Fairfield; and Dorothy Arehart of Harrisonburg.
Shirley is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 31 years, Carl Thomas "Pete" Cline; a son, Edward F. "Ed" Albert; mother-in-law, Frances Virginia Cline; step-children Carl "Carlie" Thomas Cline, Jr and wife Sharon; Alice "Alley" Harlow and husband David; Matthew "Matt" Cline and fianc Sarah; Jason Cline and wife April; Joseph Andy" Cline and wife Penny; sister-in-law Carol Hostetter and fianc Paul Smothers; brother-in-law Larry Garrett; grandchildren Lexie, Haley, Jake, Emily, Adam, Ava, Cooper and Chloe Cline, Wesley and wife Katie Harlow, Jarrett Harlow, Whitney Kirker and husband Junior; 3 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and family that she loved so much.
Shirley attended Wilson Memorial High School and worked in healthcare at Western State Hospital for 22 years before retiring. She previously worked at Genesco for 20 years. Shirley loved spending time with family and friends, camping and participating in water aerobics class at the YMCA. She was known for her quick wit, infectious sense of humor, and kind and compassionate spirit.
A memorial service will be announced at a future date.
