Sherwin Marion Burt Burtner, 81, husband of Mary Lou (Huff) Burtner of 400 White Oak Gap Road passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at his residence.
Mr. Burtner was born on January 28, 1935 in Gary, Indiana, a son of the late Marion and Pribble (Given) Burtner.
Burt was a member of the White Hill Church of the Brethren and was retired from Peeler Oil Company after thirty years of service as a delivery truck driver. After his retirement from Peeler Oil Company, Mr. Burtner continued working for the United States Postal Service for seven years as a driver. Mr. Burtner was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps from 1954 to 1958 as an Electronic Technician and following his retirement, Burt enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing and golf. In 2011, Mr. Burtner was inducted into the Wilson Memorial High School Athletic Hall of Fame Class for his basketball achievements.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 61 years, are two sons, Duane A. Burtner and his wife Sharon of Stuarts Draft and Michael Kent Burtner and his wife Sandy of Staunton; a daughter, Beth Ann Dugstad and her husband Peter of Woodbine, MD; a brother, Randall Burtner and his wife Marcy of Staunton; a sister, Beverly Lewis of Frankfort, Indiana; six grandchildren; a great grandson and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
A Celebration of life will be conducted 4:00 Sunday, July 17, 2016 in the White Hill Church of the Brethren by Pastor James Chappell. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church.
A private burial will be conducted at a later date in the Pleasant View Lutheran Church Cemetery.
