Shelby Jean (Moyers) Bartley Vatter, 76, wife of David E. Vatter, of 3 Kenwood Drive, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at Augusta Health in Fishersville.
Mrs. Vatter was born on December 17, 1937 in Augusta County, a daughter of the late Mannie and Margaret (Landes) Moyers.
Shelby was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She retired in 1995 from Western State Hospital where she was employed as a beautician; she enjoyed knitting, playing music and spending time with her family and was a friend to all. She was a wonderful wife, mother and friend.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Vatter was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles E. Bartley to whom she was married on April 11, 1958 until his passing on September 27, 1992 and a daughter, Julie Ann (Bartley) Cary who passed on July 2, 2000.
Surviving in addition to her husband of 19 years are two daughters, Susan Smiley and husband Terry of Waynesboro and Margaret Crutchfield and husband Steven of Little Rock, AR; a brother, Pastor William Moyers and wife Linda of Indianapolis, IN; four grandsons, Andrew Cary, Michael Smiley, Evan Crutchfield and Jarod Crutchfield.
a step-son, Corey Vatter and his family of Lakefield, IN and a step-daughter, Carrie Davies and her family of Nappanee, IN.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, April 13, 2014 in Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A Funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 14, 2014 in Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Bobby Campbell and her brother, Pastor William Moyers.
Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memory Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be three of her grandsons, Michael Smiley, Jarod Crutchfield and Andrew Cary, her sons-in-law, Steven Crutchfield and Terry Smiley and Terry Smith, Jeff Delp, Dwayne Brooks and Tommy Richardson.
It is suggested that memorial contributions be made to Staunton Augusta Rescue Squad, Post Office Box 2566, Staunton, VA 24402 or the American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Court, Richmond, VA 23060.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.
