Savoy Lee Carpenter, Jr. 66, of 2152 Hewitt Road passed away Thursday, October 23, 2014, in Kings Daughters Nursing and Rehab Center in Staunton.
Mr. Carpenter was born on January 3, 1948, in Swoope, a son of Isabelle (Smith) Carpenter and the late Savoy Lee Carpenter, Sr.
Savoy was a member of the Bethel Seventh Day Adventist Church. He was a thirteen year veteran of the United States Army serving during the Vietnam War. He was employed by the Staunton News Leader as a Printer, he loved gardening, tinkering, fishing, and the outdoors.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Carpenter is survived by a son, Savoy Alexander Carpenter of Atlanta, GA; a special friend, Loretta Stewart of Staunton; three brothers, Larry W. Carpenter, Sr. of Swoope, Henry V. Smith of Pemberton, NJ, and Roscoe A. Carpenter, Sr. of Swoope; a sister, Isabelle J. (Carpenter) Brummer of Fayetteville, AR and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
A Graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 27, 2014, in the Hunter Cemetery by Pastor Harry Britt.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
