Sarah Frances (Nelson) Thomas, 75, wife of Leroy Thomas, Sr. of 551 Hilltop Drive, passed away Saturday, February 11, 2017 in Augusta Health in Fishersville.

Mrs. Thomas was born on October 31, 1941 in Staunton, Virginia, a daughter of the late Samuel and Helen Marie (Truss) Nelson.

Sarah was a member of Augusta Street United Methodist Church and she retired from DuPont where she was employed as a machine operator. Mrs. Thomas enjoyed her special times camping, fishing and motorcycle riding with her husband, Leroy.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd Nelson and Earl Nelson; and a sister, Rosetta Williams.

Surviving in addition to her husband of fifty-two years, is a son Leroy Thomas, Jr. and his wife Miranda; two daughters, Melisa R. Kurtz and her husband Jeffery and Teresa T. Wilson all of Staunton; two brothers, Samuel Nelson and Tony Nelson and wife Dawn all of Staunton; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2017 in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.

A Celebration of life will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 16, 2017 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Dr. Michael A. Turner, Sr.

Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memory Gardens.
