Lt. Col. Sandra Lou Defibaugh, 62, of 7041 Devereux Circle Drive passed away Monday, July 29, 2013 at her residence.
Sandra was born January 19, 1951 in Caldwell, WV, a daughter of Betty (Defibaugh) Loomis.
Lt. Col. Defibaugh was a loving and wonderful daughter, she gave her love and time to her family and all those who came into her life. Sandra always put others first on a personal and friendship level. Sandra started to church at an early age and as time passed the Lord called her to serve Him and humanity. Miss Defibaugh was an ordained minister and served many appointments with the Southern Territory of the Salvation Army in Virginia, West Virginia, Oklahoma, Maryland, Florida and Georgia. She served as the Divisional Commander in the Maryland and West Virginia division. At the time of her death Sandra was the Business Administrator and Financial Secretary of the Salvation Armys National Headquarters in Washington, DC. She served as a faithful servant and to God showing love to others throughout her life.
In addition to her mother Betty of Staunton, survivors include, two brothers, Gary Defibaugh and his wife Linda of Middlebrook and David Hazelwood and his wife Mae of Crozet; a sister, Deborah Morrison and her husband Harold of Staunton; uncles, Everett, Frank and George Defibaugh; aunts, Nellie Howdyshell, Millie Trent, Wilma Chiles, Carol Ryder, Linda Morehart and Hilda Perry; nieces and nephews, Janet Hylton, Nicole Hazelwood, Michael Defibaugh, Matthew Kerr, Emily Corbman, Jamie Morrison and Carla Morrison; a number of great nieces, nephews and cousins; special friends, Jean DePriest, Judy Hartsook and Major David and Cherry Craddock also survive.
A Celebration of life and a promotion to the Lord will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 3, 2013 at the Good News Ministry Church, 18 Kerry Lane, Staunton by Commissioner Harold Hinson, Lt. Col. John Needham and Col. Bill Goodier.
Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, August 2, 2013 at the Good News Ministry Church.
Pallbearers will be Captain Bob Cornet, Major Earl Fitzgerald, Major David Dewan, Major Mark Woodcock, Major Bill McClure, Major Mike Hawley, Major Brack Dodd and Major Todd Hawks.
Honor Guards will be Major Carolyn Nichols, Major Sue Dewan, Major Gary Long, Major James Allison, Major David Craddock and Ms. Jean DePriest.
