Samuel Remmel Young, 72, husband of Mary-Jane Nase of Middlebrook passed away Sunday, July 19, 2015 at his residence.
Mr. Young was born on November 15, 1942 in Raleigh, NC, a son of the late Dr. Robert Foster and Dawsey (Thomas) Young.
Mr. Young was a member of Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church. He graduated from Roanoke Rapids High School and North Carolina State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Sam retired from IBM as a systems engineer, he had a passion for trains, was a member of the Augusta County Train Club, he enjoyed traveling the Parkway, bird watching, reading, and hosted a home weather station.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Young was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Wimberly James Young.
Surviving in addition to his wife of nine years, is a daughter, Ashley Young and her husband Kyle Knickerbocker of Superior, CO; a step daughter, Tracy Batten and her husband Rodney of Linn, MO; a sister, Angela (Young) Harrell and her husband Haywood of Ebony; two grandchildren, Ronin (Young) Knickerbocker and Emica (Young) Knickerbocker; two step-grandchildren, Benjamin Batten and Olivia Batten; five nieces, Wendy (Young) Lovekamp and husband Kurt, Cindy (Young) Wollett and husband Michael, Holly (Harrell) Paddock and husband Dick, Heather (Harrell) Pliska and husband Ray and Heidi (Harrell) and husband Jeff; grandnieces and nephew, Emery and Forest Lovekamp, Dustin and Ellie Wollett, Hayley and Hannah Huff and Jackson Pliska, also survive.
A Memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Friday, July 24, 2015 in the Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church by Rev. Jo Ann Bunn.
Burial will be in the Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends following the service in the church Fellowship Hall.

Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
