Samuel D. Stewart
MIDDLEBROOK:
Samuel Dock Sammy Dock Stewart, 80, widower of Rheba Mae (Brown) Stewart, of 6346 Middlebrook Road, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2011 at the residence of his daughter Loretta S. Stewart.
Mr. Stewart was born in Brownsburg, Virginia, a son of the late Roy and Gladys (Holliway) Stewart.
Samuel attended Oak Hill Baptist Church, he enjoyed working on his farm with his animals, fishing, gardening, mowing grass and helping his neighbors.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Stewart was preceded in death by a brother Eugene Stewart, and three sisters Hattie Ann Porter, Gladys M. Dickerson and Catherine Brown.
Survivors include two sons, Bernard V. Stewart of Herndon, Va.; and Gregory P. Stewart of Hasbrouck, N.Y.; four daughters Josephine S. Carpenter and her husband Roscoe, Sr. of Swoope; Loretta S. Stewart and her friend Savoy Carpenter of Staunton; Reba L. Woodson and her husband Tim of Staunton; and Bernice C. Stewart of Middlebrook; a brother, Leroy Stewart; two sisters, Pauline S. Stevenson, and Alice S. Carter, both of Brownsburg; four grandchildren, Roscoe Carpenter, Jr., Elizabeth R. Brogan, Tyrone M. Harris and his wife Kristin, and Zachary S. Stewart and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 4, 2011 in Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastors Sandra Rushing and Tim Woodson.
Burial will follow in the Oaklawn Memory Gardens.
Active pallbearers are Bernard Woodson, David Lotts, Savoy Carpenter, John Runkle, Isaac Wolfe, Keith Kovak, Louis Carter, and Bill Nuckols.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 3, 2011 in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at his residence.
It is suggested that memorial contributions be made to Hospice @ Shenandoah, 64 Sports Medicine Drive, Staunton, VA 24401 or to the American Cancer Society, 420 Neff Avenue Suite 210, Harrisonburg, Virginia 22801.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory at 230 Frontier Drive is in charge of his arrangements.
