Samuel Walter Spitler's Obituary

Samuel Walter Spitler, 57, husband of Teresa (Grogg) Spitler of 130 William Cousins Road, passed away Sunday, September 19, 2021 at his residence.

Mr. Spitler was born in Altus, Oklahoma on January 29, 1964, a son of the late John Daniel Spitler, Sr. and DeLoris Yvonne (Espe) Whitlock.

Walter was employed with V.D.O.T. as an equipment operator and prior to V.D.O.T he worked for the Manheim Harrisonburg Auto Auction for thirty-four years. He liked riding motorcycles, enjoyed cutting up with people, and his quick-wittedness was invaluable. For those who knew Walter best, knew how much he loved his family and animals.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Spitler was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward Dale "Eddie" Spitler and John D. Spitler, Jr.

Surviving in addition to his wife of thirty years, is a son, Matthew L. Spitler of Stuarts Draft; a daughter, Heather F. Willis and her husband Larry of Grottoes; a sister, Julia A. Melzer and her husband Jon of Boca Grande, Florida; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Michael and Norma Grogg of Greenville; sister-in-law, Crystal Truxell and her husband Wesley of Mt. Sidney; nephew, Jacob Truxell; step-father, John A. Whitlock of Staunton; step-mother, Linda Spitler of Waynesboro; step-sister, Robin Viers and wife Nicole of Mt. Sidney; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Gathering will be held 4:00 p.m. Sunday, September 26, 2021 at the Stoney Creek Resort and Campground Pavilion by Theresa Moore.

It is suggested those desiring make memorial contributions to American Heart Association, 3140 Chaparral Drive, Building C, Box 106, Roanoke, Virginia 24018.
