"Sam" Burns, Jr.
October 15, 1954 – January 21, 2022
Samuel Newton "Sam" Burns, Jr., 67, husband of Donna Kay (Frank) Burns of 711Carann Street, Staunton, passed away Friday, January 21, 2022 at Augusta Health in Fishersville.
Mr. Burns was born in Staunton, Virginia on October 15, 1954, a son of Frances (Dull) Burns and the late Samuel Newton Burns, Sr.
Sam was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Waynesboro, and retired from the City of Staunton in the Engineering Department. He was a 1973 graduate of Buffalo Gap High School and he attended Lees-McRae College. Sam was a member of the Shenandoah Valley Harley Owners Group, he enjoyed attending antique car shows, often taking his 1966 Mustang, and he participated in Civil War re-enactments with the Staunton Artillery Company. Sam also was an on-call firefighter for the U.S. Forest Service, traveling to many states fighting forest fires.
Surviving in addition to his mother of Buffalo Gap, and his wife of thirty-three years, is a daughter, Fera S. (Burns) Morrison of Staunton; a granddaughter, Avery Nicole Morrison; his mother-in-law, Lillian "Mae" (Guyer) Frank of Waynesboro; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, January, 24, 2022 in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A Celebration of life will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 25, 2022 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by the Reverend Karen R. Taylor.
Burial will follow the service in Thornrose Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be his granddaughter, Avery Morrison, and Chris Morrison, Andy Cline, Vic Wise, Miles Truslow, "Leapy" McManaway, Roscoe Miller, and Shan Mitchell.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Staunton Artillery Company.
The family request masks or face coverings be worn.
It is suggested those desiring make memorial contributions to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1148 Ladd Road, Waynesboro, Virginia 22980 or the S.A.R.S., 1601 North Coalter Street, Staunton, Virginia 24401.
The family would like to extend a special and sincere "Thank You" to the many doctors and nurses at the University of Virginia Hospital, Augusta Health and the UVA-Staunton Dialysis Center for the care and love shown to Sam over the past several years.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
